As we tie a bow on 2016, the dawn of a new year brings forth time for change, a chance to take a look backwards and “take stock” of the past year, and an opportunity to better ourselves by practising self-care. But how many “resolutions” actually make it to the first breath of spring? Here are some simple resolutions for your oral health to take you into 2017:

  1. Buy a new toothbrush.

Dentists recommend that you change your toothbrush every 3 months. Of course, you actually need to use your toothbrush 2-3 times a day -- for 2 minutes each time -- in order to realize the benefits of optimal oral health. Do yourself and others around you a favour: buy a new toothbrush! This is a perfect time to do it. By springtime, you’ll be ready for another, then by autumn another, and so on...

  2. FLOSS.

Is it really that difficult to floss once a day? If it is truly a chore to floss your teeth, start yourself off with baby steps. Tackle flossing at an incremental pace, and increase as the year progresses. Set a goal -- perhaps daily flossing by summer. By July, you will have created a wonderfully beneficial oral health regimen for yourself. This can save you from future inflammation and gum disease. Everyone wins!

  3. Visit the dentist AT LEAST TWICE in 2017.

Continuity of care is vital to oral health, and most dentists recommend a minimum of TWO visits per year. More visits are suggested for smokers and those exhibiting less-than-optimal oral health. Regular dental visits will help to prevent potential future issues from developing -– which is a way to actually save money in the long run!

  4. Smile more this year!

It has been scientifically proven that a simple smile can boost mood and relieve stress. Turn that frown upside-down. Make this year amazing!

Happy New Year from the Mint Team!
